Bottega Veneta’s Aromatic Affair

Blending opulence and olfaction, Bottega Veneta hosted a scented soiree for the upper echelon at The Academy Mansion on East 63rd to fete the first fragrance dreamed up by Tomas Maier and Coty Prestige. The haut monde, including Joe Zee, Robbie Myers, Jessica Chastain, Lauren Remington Platt, Dirk Standen, Simon Donnan, Linda Wells, Jessica Diehl, Britt Maren, and Adam Glassman, trickled into the manse, greeted by suited gents offering a sampling of the parfum on a silver platter. “I’d love it if my bed smelled like this. I just want to crawl inside it,” said Chastain of the leather et floral aroma. The buzzy up-and-comer later mingled in the garden with Maier and dished on her own fragrant habits. “I always change my perfume on a movie set based on my character. For The Tree of Life, I wore Orange Blossom, and in The Help, I wore Chanel No.5 because my character, Celia Foote, keeps getting compared to Marilyn Monroe.”

Meanwhile, guests nibbled on petite hors d’œuvre–black bass drizzled with lemon, beef arugula wraps, and grilled cheese squares–and watched Inès de la Fressange‘s daughter Nine d’Urso frolick on-screen in the new ad campaign shot by Bruce Weber in South Florida. Glassman lingered in the den-cum-theater and reminisced about his schoolboy days. “The first cologne I bought was in middle school. It was called Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche. I wore it every day,” he told us. Doonan, on the other hand, didn’t have to travel far to find his signature scent. “My mother wore L’air du Temps by Nina Ricci. I was sloshing that on when she wasn’t looking. I have to be watched because I tend to overdo it,” he confessed. “You know, I’ve always loved the smell of hairspray–it’s so hedonistic and festive,” Donnan added. “If I was going to make my own perfume, I’d have top notes of Aqua Net.”
