What to wear this winter…
Winter CAN be survived in style.
Last year we found ourselves unable to leave the house due to snow, but eventually those snow days ran out and we had to brave the elements and get ourselves to work/shop/eat. All fashion sense went out the window; it was the warmest coats we could find, six layers and our trusty wellies and not an inch of femininity in sight.
This year, we’re determined to be more prepared. We want to be able to leave the house without having to wear our oldest jeans, feel reasonably warm and go about our normal day without looking six stone heavier than we normally are.
Firstly, keep those legs warm with wellington boots, a must for snowy days. Secretly we quite enjoyed wearing our polka dot wellies last year, so wellies are firmly on our list for this winter and there are so many styles out there now that they aren’t all going to make us look like lost farmers in the city. Make sure you wear some decent thick socks for keeping your toes warm!
If you’re not feeling the wellies look, go for this seasons over the knee boots and team them with knit tights and thermals! Knit tights are an absolute must for surviving winter without trousers.
Thermals really are making a comeback; we’ve discovered that your underwear is key in keeping you warm but keeping you stylish, with minimal thickness added to your overall look. It might not be the nicest thought to know that you’re harbouring full-length thermals under your clothes but trust us, it will mean bundling up in less layers, so it’s definitely worth it.
Our grannies used to tell us that if you keep your head and your feet warm the rest will follow and right she was! Never leave the house without a hat, go for a leather hat if you’re feeling on trend, perfect for rainy days or go for a hunter style hat to keep those ears warm and grab a bear hat complete with ears if you want to look super cute, they are everywhere at the moment.
We’ve also gone back in time and decided we’re tired of taking our gloves on and off, stuffing them in our backs, rooting through said overstuffed bag to find them and trying to put them back on so we’ve gone back to school on this one and our mittens now hang proudly on string fed throughout coats – don’t tell us you’ve never been tempted…
Stick to long sleeved and chunky knit dresses or dresses with a cowl neck for lots of toasty moments. Maxi dresses are also hanging around after the summer and you can wear these with layers of socks and those around you will be none the wiser. A maxi dress with a vintage cable-knit cardigan is a great look this winter. Find great clothes for winter at http://www.very.co.uk/-the popular fashion shop online.
